A recent weigh in prior to a holiday for a Loughton client threw up one of life’s little issues
A trip to Ibiza (ANOTHER ONE!), had been planned for a while. The date put in the diary and the sessions booked in preparation for operation ‘bikini fat loss’
The process began with a conversation at the start of the training about how given she had x amount of time, y amount of fat loss was possible if she was to stick rigidly to the nutritional protocols/ advice i’d given, train with me when she said she would, exercise outside of that time, increase her daily non exercise activity levels and also keep stress to a minimum
These are the pillars of fitness, health & weigh management (ill be writing about these soon)
However, 4 weeks later and at weigh in her weight loss, or fat loss i should say wasn’t as good as she had hoped for (and I had hoped for too)
However, i knew for a fact there had been the odd night out with booze involved, meals out with friends, late nights clubbing (some with some without drink) and the nutrition could have been better at times…and she was the first to admit this
But we had a result
In fact we had 2 results
She had dropped fat and lost size..SOME
But she had also carried on some kind of normality of life, she had socialised, enjoyed herself, enjoyed some food out whilst also enjoying the fitness she had been doing
So what we sat down and i asked her was
If …you would have missed out on August summer time fun (the time shed been training), missed going out and seeing people BUT you would have hit your target for fat loss would you have been happy
‘Probably not in august but yes on holiday’ she replied
Which, would have given you more gratification i asked
Enjoying august she replied….
This was the CHOICE she had made
These are choices we make every day
Everything we do is a choice, and when taking those choices in a fitness or fat loss environment it becomes a little more basic
Is what you are going to do, going to assist you in that journey or not
Then the choice is simple
Which choice that i decide on will I take more benefit from in the long run
Im not saying one or the other is right
But if you ask yourself that question every time you make those choices you will become a lot more aware of the consequences of your actions
Do i want to eat this donut now, will it help me in losing fat in the long run, and will I regret it or enjoy it enough to warrant eating it
Will going out with my friend for drinks help me on my fitness drive in the long run, will i enjoy going out enough to outweigh the consequences of possible not getting as much progress as id have liked
These are simple choices, with no right or wrong answer…just a balanced debate to think about
But starting out the journey people are usually in a place that has driven them to contact me, pay to get help, maybe unhappy with how they feel, look or act
So these choices should be simpler to make
There are consequences to every action we take…to every choice we make
Some are worthwhile and some not
Some offer instant gratification and long term you may be annoyed with yourself for them
Recognise the difference here and the battle is won, the higher the ratio of choices you make that will make you happy…the happier a person you are…the more choices you make that will help you towards a goal, the faster that goal will be achieved
But know that regardless of the choice you make and the consequences of those actions, regret and remorse WILL NOT help you
Learn from every choice and move on
Don’t dwell on it, improve, grow..
And next time you will more than likely take the better option
if you need help working out what are the best choices available, how to increase the ratio, what the choices are then feel free to get in touch, ask for advice or arrange for a consultation to get you moving on the path
have a great weekend and enjoy whatever choices you make
