Yesterday I couldn’t be arsed
I’m bored of the gym
I’m 5 or 6 weeks into a programme and the monotony is starting to wear in
It was leg press day as I try and recover from a slight twinge in my knee and do some leg work in between my upper body training days (which being a man i obviously prefer….plus leg press hurts more the next day)
So my motivation was low
I delayed the workout
Which is usually a big no n no as the later I delay it the less chance there is of ACTUALLY working out.
Using the old ‘ill have a rest day and then make up for it tomorrow and the next day’
Which never happens!
So I get pissed off
As I didn’t exercise
My mood becomes aggravated, grumpy and not fun to be around
But then I remembered ALL the above
The same scenario that happens every time
And I used THIS to get some motivation, which dragged me to the gym
And you know what
The same thing happened to me that a LOT of my clients tell me
‘Before the session I REALLY wasn’t looking forward to training, I mean REALLY not looking forward to training, But now its done I feel much better, in a much better mood and GLAD I actually did it’
As did I, as I hobbled away from the gym and do every time I achingly stand up today
Getting fit isn’t always high fives and bounding energy
There ARE sessions you will want to quit…days you want to stay in bed or go home and sit on the couch watching the apprentice
But the reality is hiring a personal trainer takes that decision away from you
There’s accountability that helps you get off your bum and do the exercises OUTSIDE of the sessions you do with them,
eating better knowing they are going to check
Getting more energy out of those sessions you’d rather not have to have done
And you know what
Its THOSE sessions you take more home from, more satisfaction
There the ones that in reality would never of happened
So in the long run…you do more, get results faster, become self motivated FASTER, exercising on your own becomes EASIER, learn a lot more and the whole process less stressful
And THOSE sessions will happen fewer and farer between (but they will still occur occasionally)
Got my mojo back today…….back on it
Have a great weekend…and if you have to DRAG yourself out for a run..to the gym….or whatever you can to make you feel a whole lot better on the other side
‘ I really regret doing that workout’ said no one ever
